Afros & Activism: Natural Hair & the Black Community
I was so happy to participate in this panel on Afros & Activism hosted by Natasha Gaspard of @ManeMovesTV, explored the Natural Hair community's responsibility to the Black community. Many thanks to the House of Art Gallery in Bed Stuy Brooklyn & to author Michael July, author of "AFROS - A Celebration Of Natural Hair"
There general themes we addressed included:
1. The natural hair movement of the 60's & 70's & the movement today;
2. The Afro as a symbol of Black Pride & resistance;
3. The politics of natural hair; and
4. Activism: The natural hair movement as a platform for activism.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the connections between the natural hair movement & the issues facing the Black community.
